Ruggo and Andy Cypress teamed up again for a sequel to their 2019 album, Keepitmovin. K.I.M 2 is filled with great lyricism over well produced sounds. Keepitmovin 2 allows listeners to enjoy great rapping skills from both Ruggo 818 and Andy Cypress. For fans, you can hear the growth over the past two years from both artists.
Ruggo explains how he and Andy would work together when creating their lyrics and flows, “we kept coming at each other with song ideas and things that we had written already before we met up at the studio. Every now and then we’d pull up a beat and either write or freestyle something on the spot and work around that. There was really like a set sequence to it, we kind of just molded everything together so well because me and Andy have that chemistry.”
When creating an album, there are always songs that artists feel the most proud of or loved the memory of working on it. When I asked Ruggo which three songs he enjoyed working on, he replied with:
“For me personally, I’m a huge fan of “Racing Time” “Igloo” and “Tough.” Obviously there’s a lot more that I enjoyed making and really loved how they turned out, but for me those were the most fun or most enjoyable to create. “Racing Time” especially because I believe it really sets the tone for where your standards as a listener should be when you tune into this project. We tend to raise the bar every time we work together. No corners cut, no settling for subpar, no mediocracy. We really got together and made a great project and I really enjoyed putting the whole thing together, but “Racing Time” is just a great staple for our longevity.”
Now both Ruggo and Andy Cypress have two Keepitmovin albums. Ruggo spoke more about the possibility of a follow-up album, Keepitmovin 3.
“I’m sure the supporters would LOVE me and Andy to team up in the future for another one, and probably ARE expecting another one. Personally, I don’t see it happening again or at least anytime soon. It’s kind of like a in the moment thing, like if you’re here for it now, then enjoy it while you can because as our sounds start to grow and our thoughts start to evolve. I feel like the music is going to change drastically and it’s going to be less probable that we do another one of these tapes. Maybe one day in the future but I can’t see it happening anytime soon. You never know though.”
Although the majority of the album had me hooked, my top five favorite songs are: “Igloo” (feat. Nick Enigma & Ruby), “Unimpressed”, “All My Life” (feat. Jamario Turner), “No Visuals” and “Forward 2”. All songs listed had amazing lyrics, flows and great sound from the producer. My head was bumping back and forth, and the lyrics spoke to me. They make you feel like your top dog while continuing to strive to be the best.
The last song of the album, “Forward 2”, brought out their more vulnerable side. They were able to say their thanks to their fans as well as let them and others who are watching and listening that they are going to continue to rise up until they get where they picture themselves being.
