Bet It Back by Jayson Cash is an eclectic, hard-hitting, and authentic body of work.
I listened to the album during a meditative walk through View Park, and Cash’s
ability to ride a smooth beat while delivering heavy-hitting stories captivated me.
His lyrics touch on love, relationships, family, and the complexities of navigating
success as one of South Central LA’s rising rap stars.
The project kicks off strong with What I Say?, a laid-back yet menacing track that
asserts his position: “I’m really him, and I’m up next. I’ve put too much on the line
not to come out on top.” The soundscape draws from a blend of hip-hop, R&B, and
neo-soul, creating a versatile foundation for Cash’s storytelling. Including Bishop
Don “Magic” Juan on the track further grounds the project in LA’s cultural fabric, showing that this work is a tribute to the city.
My personal favorite is Close featuring Mayjor Myjah. Right from the start, it’s
soaked in an R&B, soul-infused sound. Myjah’s sultry vocals glide effortlessly
over the hook, providing the perfect contrast to Cash’s bold lyricism. It’s a standout
moment on the project.
The EP wraps up with Amen, a heartfelt track that reflects on Cash’s life and
career. Through his words, you see a man who’s worked hard, made mistakes, and
grown, yet remains humble and grateful. It’s a powerful way to close the project,
underscoring his journey with sincerity.
Overall, Bet It Back resonates deeply with LA listeners, carrying a familiar sound
and featuring notable local artists like Buddy and Rucci. It’s a project that feels
both fresh and rooted in the city’s rich musical legacy.
Great content!
