T Spokes “Speak On It”

Written By Samaiya Kirby

Speak On It by Tspokes is a 20 minute project featuring nine tracks, serving as a strong
introduction for anyone unfamiliar with her music. It kicks off with the self-titled track, “Speak
On It,” a short but bold statement. In this song, T makes it clear that she’s in her own lane and
she’s not here to fit a mold or be compared to other female rappers. Her talent and unique
wordplay shine through, especially on the track “Run That” featuring Wray. When she says,
“I’ve been feeling blue and I’ve been seeing blue,” it’s a clever way of saying, “you sad? get a
bag.” That line was pretty creative.

Another standout track where T’s wordplay is on full display is “Championship.” She spits, “The
biggest stepper standing on their necks with both feet, jumped up in that water, while y’all was
sitting there with cold feet.” It’s refreshing listening a female rapper who doesn’t rely on the
same themes about sex or her body in every track. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s what
makes this EP stand out to me as a listener.

This project goes hard. It’s the kind of music you can party to or vibe out to, with a heavy West
Coast influence. T really emphasizes that on the closing track, “Westcoast Matters,” where she
makes it clear she’s repping California. The beat has this oldschool vibe, and you can tell she’s
drawing from legendary Cali rappers, paying homage not just to her city but to the whole state.
Overall, i’m excited to see and hear more from her in the future.
